Kahuku-Pohue Prescribed Fire Burn Plan
- May 4
- 1 min read
This message is to notify you of our intent to initiate prescribed fire operations at Pohue Bay in the Hawaii Volcanoes NP NPS Kahuku Parcel beginning on Thursday May 7th 2026, pending favorable weather conditions.
The operation is part of the Kahuku-Pohue Prescribed Fire Burn Plan and will target 5 acres of coconut palm debris accumulated into 2 hand-built piles to reduce coconut rhinoceros beetle habitat and wildfire danger.
We anticipate the possibility of continuing ignition/mopup operations on Friday May 8th depending on daily weather conditions, progress, and on-site fire behavior.
Please feel free to reach out if you have questions.
